Assistant Principal Professional Development

Assistant Principals – Resourcing Effective Leadership
Professional Development Programme

This three module programme over 12 hours will equip AP’s with a leadership toolbox to apply in whatever specific role they have as well as they contribute to the overall leadership of the school community. The training will be practical and hands on to ensure that the approaches, solutions, ideas and tips can be used in the day to day role of an AP – some of the topics covered:
Leading teams  - managing conflict constructively – difficult conversations – working with colleagues as an AP – practical implications for inclusion – being part of the wider school leadership team – SSE – special education needs – student support - role specific workshops so that the practical needs of your role are addressed – effective planning – time management – better meetings – communication strategies…

…a Leadership Clinic will also form part of the sessions to ensure that the particular issues of the participants get addressed.

A real value of this programme will be the networking with other schools and sectors to see what is working and what can be adapted to different contexts…

The programme has been designed and will be delivered by Luke Monahan of Curam.ie and Billy Redmond of LearningHouse.ie – they are both highly experienced trainers as well as having been holders of a range of school roles. The materials and approaches have been piloted very successfully in a range of schools across the country and this programme is in answer to the need for professional development in this area.
